A. BACKGROUND
In 2023, the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) announced that the City of Ypsilanti had been awarded a $50,000 Certified Local Government grant to complete a reconnaissance-level resurvey of the City’s local historic district. The local historic district was last surveyed in the early 1980s and an updated document that meets current survey standards is needed.
B. OBJECTIVE
The City of Ypsilanti seeks to hire a 36 C.F.R. Part 61-qualified consultant meeting the professional qualifications for “architectural historian” to perform a reconnaissance-level resurvey of the City’s local historic district, which includes about 820 properties and is comprised of about 310 acres. All properties within the district boundaries, regardless of age or condition, will be documented as part of the project. The up-to-date document will accurately reflect the character, integrity, and status of all properties located within the local historic district and will include applicable contexts for the district. The Consultant will be responsible for all technical work associated with the project: to conduct field and historic research, provide interim and draft reports, complete the survey, and write and finalize the survey report. The selected consultant will demonstrate knowledge of and experience in conducting historical research, field surveying, context development, report writing, meeting facilitation, and all other required project activities. The duration of the project is through August 31, 2025.
