  • Summary It is the intent of these plans and specifications to provide for a general contractor who shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary to perform in a professional manner for the 2024 Cycle Track Pilots as described in the specifications and bid document.

SCOPE OF WORK

The scope of work for this project shall consist of installing two separate cycle track pilots on Lovell St from Oakland Dr to Pitcher St and Stadium Dr from Rambling Rd to Howard St. Additionally, there is one Option on the project for placing pavement markings and signs on Portage St to align with the City’s updated street design guidance. The purpose of these pilot projects and Option is to trial the feasibility and usage of two-way cycle facilities on the associated roadways. The following are the scopes of each effort:

Lovell St Pilot

Work on Lovell St will consist of removing pavement markings, signage, and other items in accordance with the plan sheets. After removal, new pavement markings will be placed, new signage erected, and non-motorized buffers and posts will be placed to delineate the cycle areas and guide bicyclists to the proper crossing areas. No more than three (3) business days shall elapse from time of removal of the old pavement markings to the start of placement of new pavement markings. New pavement markings shall be substantially completed within five (5) business days. Non-motorized buffers, new signage and markers shall be installed within seven (7) business days of new pavement markings being completed. Green pavement markings will be added as guidance for non-motorized traffic along the corridor and for special emphasis of non-motorized travel at the crossing on Pitcher St.

Stadium Dr Pilot

Work on Stadium Dr will consist of placing new pavement markings, erecting new signage, and installing non-motorized buffers to delineate the cycle area along the northern shoulder of Stadium Dr. Bike boxes will be placed at the Rambling & Stadium intersection to accommodate bike detection at the signal. Non-motorized buffers, new signage and markers shall be installed within ten (10) business days of new pavement markings being completed.

OPTION – Portage St Pavement Markings

Work on Portage St will consist of laying out new lane layout, removing any conflicting pavement markings, and placing new pavement markings and signs to designate an added bike lane to the street. To the extent possible or as directed by the Engineer, new 6-inch, white, lane markings shall be placed over existing skip marks. Limits for this option work are from the Portage and South Town intersection north to the intersection of Portage and South.

All necessary traffic control, labor, materials, tools, equipment, and other items incidental to the work being performed shall be included in the Contractor’s unit price for this contract. Such items will not be bid or paid for separately but shall be included in the overall unit price.

The bidder shall furnish all labor, supervision, supplies, tools, equipment, and other means necessary or proper for performing and completing the work. The bidder shall be responsible for the cleaning up of the job site and shall repair or restore all structures and property that may be damaged or disturbed during performance of the work to the satisfaction of the Public Services Department for the City of Kalamazoo. Drainage structure covers shall be salvaged and reused if in usable condition; otherwise, they shall be replaced. Where needed, all traffic control used for such operations as defined by the MMUTCD will be the responsibility of the bidder.
