The City of Kalamazoo’s Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (BRA) was established to promote the revitalization of environmentally distressed, contaminated or blighted areas. The City’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is a special purpose corporation that provides financing and other assistance for commercial and industrial development projects. Membership for both boards is the same meeting consecutively each month for a public meeting following the Open Meetings Act.

The BRA and EDC Board of Directors and City staff who serve the board are seeking qualifications and cost proposals from legal firms (Consultant) to provide brownfield and economic development legal services. The selected Consultant will work with City staff by providing legal services related to redevelopment of brownfield-qualified properties and economic development financing as outlined in Section 3 below. The BRA and EDC are seeking a qualified legal firm to advise and represent the board in real estate development agreements, cannabis permitting matters, and financing agreements.

To this point, legal services for the BRA and EDC have been met by the Office of the Attorney for the City of Kalamazoo. The BRA and EDC are now seeking outside contractual services and the City’s purchasing guidelines require proposals be solicited for this service.
