The City of Big Rapids will hold a public meeting on the proposed water system improvements project for the purpose of receiving comments from interested persons. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on May 15 ^th ,2023 at 226 N Michigan Ave, Big Rapids, MI 49307.

The purpose of the proposed project is to address aging infrastructure within the City’s water system and at the City’s Water Treatment Plant in an effort to provide reliable water service to the system’s users. Project construction will involve watermain replacement, lead service replacements, improvements at two booster stations; and process piping and clarifier improvements at the Water Treatment Plant.

Temporary impacts of the proposed project include construction traffic through the City, but no long term negative impacts are anticipated.

The estimated project costs are totaled to be approximately $8.1 million. User rates will be adjusted to service the debt and operate and maintain the proposed improvements over time. The estimated cost to users for the proposed project will be discussed at the public meeting and the final costs will be dependent on the terms of the financing proposed by EGLE for this project and ultimate scope of the project.

Copies of the plan detailing the proposed project will be available for inspection beginning May 4 ^th , 2023 at the following location(s): City Hall 226 N Michigan Ave, Big Rapids, MI 49307. Written comments received before the meeting record is closed on May 15 ^th , 2023 at 6:30 pm will receive responses in the final project planning document.
